About my blog

Based on novel robot vision/image recognition algorithms, it is possible to reconstruct a 3D model with a simple webcam in real-time. The AR drone, equipped with several cameras seems to be a perfect match to establish a 3D scanning system for large objects, such as cars or buildings. (Experts: Ronald Poelman&Oytun Akman)

Flying the Drone for the first time!

Today we were finally able to start flying the Drone.

We did have some hurdles to overcome. First of all, we were able to install the software for flying on a laptop. And indeed, the Drone started flying. However, we were not able  to control it’s flying through the laptop. This resulted in a rescue dive in order to stop the drone from randomly flying away.

Secondly, we weren’t able to install the software on a phone using android. So we had to look for an iPhone we could use. Finally after 2 iPhones and a lot of instalations, we were able to finally FLY!

Pictures and movies will be uploaded asap.

Quadrocopter movies

Here are some cool movies from a quadrocopter controlled by the "Kinect"

and from quadrocopters programmed to juggle a ball.

how to connect the AR drone to a computer

We’re going to use the AR.Drone, Parret’s quadricopter, to record video’s for PTAM. This quadricopter has four propellers, is thus very stable and can be controlled by an iPhone or Android smartphone.
